In the prologue, we first see Jack as a happy human with a wife named Emily and a brand new baby girl named Lia, but that happy image doesn't last long once a twisted vampire called Maximilian Orlock silently slips into the house. Orlock slaughters both Emily and the baby, and afterwards, Jack somehow catches his interest, and he forces him into a life of vampirism. For the longest time, Jack was an extremely suicidal and tormented soul. Orlock put him through all sorts of torture and mentally destructive treatment. After over 30 years of this, he has changed a lot. He has become stronger and much more debonair, but he is also very much insane. He no longer tries to kill himself, but is very indifferent about his life and never fears death. He also seems to have been brainwashed by Orlock, and is more accepting and tolerant of him, even though he continues to have bottled up hate. He also fears that he is becoming like his sire...because he thinks that every moment of torture, every time he kills someone and enjoys it, he loses a piece of his soul and comes closer to being an empty shell. Jack is normally very confident and suave, always with a smirk on his face. He doesn't exactly anger easily but is very impatient. He also can have random shifts in mood, jumping from incredibly violent, to very strange and creepy, to sweet; almost human again. Jack also has managed to make his own little mark in the world, for his reputation is more known than that of his sire. He has some enemies, and some allies, but mostly he has simply struck fear into because of his personality and amazing skills that he developed very fast compared to most vampires...probably because of Orlock's strict training. One magic he is known for using particularly is his power over shadows and darkness. Thus he developed several nicknames like "Prince of Darkness" and "Shadow Wraith", which eventually got shortened into "Jack Darkness". Now, Jack "Darkness" Price has recently created his own vampire, Jill Cross, as she seems to resemble his long lost love...
